In Costa Rica, the National Policy on Aging and Old Age 2011-2021 excludes the approach to sexuality and affectivity, as well as the existence of homosexual people over 60 years. Because of this, this article analyzes the myths and realities in the experience of sexual practices and affective processes of the elderly in Costa Rica from a humanistic and gestalt approach. To this end, interviews and a focus group discussion were carried out in which relevant issues were raised to have a better understanding of this topic. The results show that sexuality and affectivity are dynamic processes that depend on lived experiences, and also, show a different reality for homosexual older adults and their needs. On a legislation level, great steps have been taken on issues that favor the experience of the rights of homosexuals and people belonging to the LGBT+ community; however, there is still much to be done in terms of education and training to be able to experience progress on a social and cultural level.
